Day 8~ Mykonos, Greece
There is something about looking out at the water of the Mediterranean Sea. As S put it, “The water seems to sparkle.” It has a calming effect.
Day 8 we woke up in Mykonos, Greece, looking at a view of that sparkling water.
This was the only day we did a shore excursion directly booked from the cruise. It was only transportation from the ship to the beach, but it was easy, and knew we would be back on time. I had wanted to go to Ancient Delos, but Corey and I thought the kids would enjoy the day at the beach more. We had done a lot of historical stuff on this trip.
Starting the day with room service breakfast delivered, we were able to get everything ready without any rush. After enjoying breakfast on the balcony, we grabbed our Celebrity Cruises tote bag with towels (big beach towels provided by the concierge), sunblock, books, arm floaties (for C), a magazine (for me), and headed off to the meeting point for our transport to Elia Beach.
The beach was beautiful, a little rocky, but sandy and glistening water all the same. The water was gorgeous to look at and the kids were excited to play in it, although it was surprisingly chillier than I expected. I didn’t mind kicking back in a lounge chair, reading, and watching the kids have fun.
We did learn an important lesson though- family-friendly beach does not mean the same thing in Europe as it does in the U.S. We knew some beaches were nude, and that was specified for those, but Elia Beach was listed as ‘family-friendly’, which still means topless is an option. The kids were completely oblivious to this little detail, so there were no explanations of anything needed. Live and learn.
We returned to the ship a little before our dining seating time with just enough time to shower and change and were only a little late. Our waiter seemed to know just when we would arrive and had the drinks we had been ordering coming to the table as we sat down. He was always on top of every tiny detail or want, sometimes before we knew we wanted it. After dinner the kids were off to the kids clubs; S for themed games and a dance party, C for a Sea Life Adventure themed evening. Corey and I walked the ship, and checked out the casino for a bit, as well as the ‘shopping district’. A cruise ship is like a floating city, with everything you could need or want to do.
